Our KS2 children have certainly had ‘Wow Starters’ to their topics this year!
Both Class 3 and Class 4 have enjoyed experiencing and learning about life in the past away from school.
Class 3 visited Creswell Crags on Monday 6th September and took part in 3 workshops: the cave tour, survival skills and reconstructing animal skeletons. An excellent start to their Stone Age topic.
On Monday 13th September, Class 4 spent the day at the Newark Civil War Centre and having a tour of the town learning about Newark’s involvement and importance to the Cavaliers. The children thoroughly enjoyed their talk by John Twentyman (apparently a resident of Newark during the English Civil War) and being able to hold actual historical artefacts from the time.
We are always keen to include firsthand experiences in our topics and it is fantastic to be able to once again take our children out on visits to bring learning alive.
